PE at VRPS

INTENT

Our intention is that all children are taught to recognise the role that physical activity has in maintaining healthy minds and bodies and they are taught in an engaging and fun way so that they want to do more physical activities.

They will learn a range of skills which will make them more adept in a varietyof sports so that they become increasing proficient.

Every child will have the opportunity to attend after-school sports clubs and be signposted to local organisations so that they can continue progressing in their favourite sport.

They will be taught essential skills for life and we aim that all children will be able to swim at least 25 m before leaving us in year 6 and have overcome any fears of water.

DESIGN & IMPLEMENTATION

Each class has one indoor PE lesson and one outdoor PE lesson when the weather is fine.  There is a focus on the fundamental movement skills in the early years. As the children advance through the school, the curriculum for games, gymnastics and dance is designed to ensure that progression is appropriate and challenging. Every child is introduced to new skills and has opportunities to practise their skills.

In addition to curriculum provision of physical education, all classes take part in physical brain breaks where possible throughout the day.

Our lunch time sports sessions are led by trained coaches from the Sports Coaching Groups. Children also have access to sports coach led after school clubs throughout the year.
